The Portable Cottage

Summer is quickly slipping away and it's probably time (or past time) to shut the cottage down.  Check this simple little alternative.  It's a portable cottage.  How genius is this?  This particular beach, located off the northern coast of New Zealand (Coromandel Peninsula) requires houses to be mobile.  Keep it simple.  Keep it clean.  A killer design that flows so well with its natural surroundings.  From the weathered hardwoods that fold and collapse to either open up or shield the space depending on occupancy to the cozy, compact interior and overall ease of mobility.  The structure is anchored to a steel sled that can be towed right off site.  Perfect.  See ya next season.

Old Piece New Purpose

It's all about the story.  The journey.  It's the art of taking an old, discarded object and giving it new life.  Letting it tell a new story.  These pieces are creative and kick ass.  All handmade and only painted if necessary.  Giving some love to Bologna, Italy.  These are by Manoteca and you can see more here.

White and Walnut

The white on white look is fresh and hot right now, no doubt.  It's classy.  It's fresh.  It's crisp.  I love, however, that they took the vibe of this bath in a different direction and introduced a walnut vanity.  A fresh idea.  It's still an overall modern feel, but it's the warmth of the piece that grabs just enough of your attention.

Aluminum Wrap

A modern, rugged vibe here showcasing this cottage and guest house.  Love the depth and texture with the matte aluminum brick style cladding.  And to take the exterior a little further they drop that wild yellow on the entry doors.  Fresh!  They've clearly embraced the natural surroundings while designing the residence as well.  Oversized windows maximizing views, large distinct overhangs providing shade and rustic weathered wood accents making up the sliding barn style doors.

The classic subway that never gets old.  Drawing pattern and style from the exterior.
Another classic, the dutch door.  Always a good choice.

A nice bright white interior dominates along with a few random pastel hints in the bookcase and hanging light.  You can also catch this post over at Fred Flare.

We Bought A Farm

It was a long, super fun summer and we capped it all off this past weekend when we finally closed on this place.  We bought an old sheep farm.  A local gem clad in cobblestone and dating back to the 1920's.  A place we just fell in love with.  Rich in character, craftsmanship and history.  Everyone seems to have a story about this place.

 The pasture.
The sheep barns that date back to the late 1800's.
The vintage aluminum rocker where deal got done.  Stay tuned as it all unfolds.  This is going to be fun.
